Our Craft

The craft behind every Daastaan

Zardozi is a centuries-old metal-thread embroidery technique, traditionally worked in fine gold wire across rich fabric. On Daastaan, zardozi is hand-worked across a dusty beige velvet upper, set with jewel stones and finished with dori ties and tassels made and tied by hand.

Velvet holds embroidery thread at a different depth than silk or dupion, which is part of why the finished texture of the zardozi -- and the exact drape of each tassel -- can vary gently from pair to pair.

Care

Keeping the embroidery in shape

•Store in the dust bag it arrives in, away from direct sunlight, when not in use.
•Keep away from water, perfume and oil-based products, which can mark the thread work.
•Wipe the base gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear.
•Avoid folding or creasing the toe when storing, to protect the embroidery.
