Our Craft

The craft behind every Tarang

Mirror work, or shisha embroidery, involves stitching small mirrors onto fabric using a web of surrounding thread -- a technique with roots in Gujarat and Rajasthan. On Tarang, that mirror work is combined with contrast threadwork and sequins across a mustard yellow base, finished with fringe lace at the back.

Each mirror is held in place by a hand-stitched web rather than glue, so the tension and spacing of the thread varies slightly from piece to piece -- part of what gives shisha embroidery its handmade texture.

Care

Keeping the embroidery in shape

•Store in the dust bag it arrives in, away from direct sunlight, when not in use.
•Keep away from water, perfume and oil-based products, which can mark the thread work.
•Wipe the base gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear.
•Avoid folding or creasing the toe when storing, to protect the embroidery.
